Sudan’s Burhan Vows Triumph Over RSF

(MENAFN) Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on Thursday promised success in the ongoing struggle against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

He emphasized that the opportunity for national reconciliation continues to remain available.

“We reassure our people everywhere that victory is coming and that victory will belong to the Sudanese people,” Burhan declared during a speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s independence, according to a state news agency.

“We also affirm that the door to national reconciliation remains open,” he continued.

Burhan highlighted that the conflict has brought unity among Sudanese citizens and reinforced their collective determination.

He assured communities in Darfur and Kordofan that triumph was drawing near.

He further commended political groups that support the military, reiterating that reconciliation is accessible to all who wish to participate.

Sudan has been engulfed in a violent confrontation between the armed forces and the RSF since April 2023, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.

The three Kordofan states – North, West, and South – have endured weeks of intense clashes between the military and the RSF, forcing tens of thousands to escape.

Out of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF dominates all five states of the Darfur region in the west, except for certain northern areas of North Darfur still under military control.

Meanwhile, the army maintains authority over most of the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east, and central regions, including the capital city, Khartoum.
